Shopify Data Migration

Shopify data migration without the manual work.

Move your products, customers, orders and other store data to Shopify with structured extraction, data mapping, validation and API-powered migration.

We review your source data first, map it to Shopify’s structure, then migrate and validate it — instead of rebuilding thousands of records by hand.

The problem

Moving store data shouldn’t mean rebuilding everything manually.

Replatforming usually stalls on the data, not the design. Every product, customer and order has to arrive in Shopify in a structure Shopify understands.

Platforms store data differently. Fields that exist in Magento or WooCommerce may have no direct equivalent in Shopify, and relationships between records have to be rebuilt rather than copied.

Done by hand, that means weeks of copying and re-entering, with mistakes that only surface after launch.

  • Thousands of products, each with its own fields
  • Customer records that need to be preserved
  • Historical orders that still need to be accessible
  • Different database structures between platforms
  • Product variants and attributes
  • Collections and categories
  • Metafields and custom data
  • Images and other store assets
  • Source fields mapped correctly to Shopify
Source platforms

Migrate from your existing ecommerce platform.

What can be migrated depends on the source system and the data available in it. We review that before any work is quoted.

Migrate your Magento store data to Shopify.

Magento stores hold deeply structured product and attribute data, built up over years of trading. Attribute sets, configurable products and customer groups have no direct Shopify equivalent, so each one needs a mapping decision rather than a copy.

We work from the database or structured exports, map attributes, variants and customer records to Shopify’s structure, then validate the result against the source.

Migrate your WooCommerce store data to Shopify.

WooCommerce data sits across WordPress tables, and is usually shaped by the plugins a store has collected over the years. Custom fields often live in places a standard export never reaches.

We extract products, variations, customers and orders directly from the database, map what Shopify supports, and tell you up front about anything that has no clean equivalent.

Move your store data to a new Shopify store.

Store-to-store moves for consolidation, regional splits or a rebuild on a new store. The structures match, so the work is less about translation and more about completeness.

Products, collections, customers, metafields and supported order data are moved between stores, then checked record by record against the source within the agreed scope.

Scope

What can be migrated?

The records most stores need moved, subject to what exists in the source data.

01

Products

Titles, descriptions, pricing, SKUs, status and supported product fields.

02

Product variants

Options, combinations and variant-level pricing mapped to Shopify’s variant model.

03

Customers

Customer records and addresses, where the source data contains them.

04

Orders

Historical orders with line items, mapped to Shopify’s order structure.

05

Collections

Categories and collections, rebuilt as Shopify collections.

06

Metafields

Custom fields and attributes mapped into Shopify metafields.

07

Pages

Content pages and supported static content.

08

Images

Product and content images, linked to the right records.

Migration scope depends on the source platform, the database structure and the data actually available in the source. We confirm scope in writing before the migration starts.

Complex migrations

Have a complex migration?

Tell us where your store is coming from, what data you need to migrate and roughly how much data you have. We’ll review the scope and let you know how we can approach the migration.

Database migrations

Have a SQL database or data export?

Not every migration starts with a simple CSV export. Larger and older stores usually hand over a database, not a spreadsheet.

If you have a supported ecommerce database export, SQL file or structured data export, we can review the source structure, identify the relevant ecommerce data, map it to Shopify and migrate the agreed data set.

Working from the database often preserves more than a plugin export does — particularly order history, customer records and custom fields that exports tend to flatten or drop.

  • Magento database exports and SQL dumps
  • WooCommerce database exports
  • Structured CSV or JSON exports from a supported platform
  • Platform exports that lose data when re-imported
01

Source database

Your SQL file, database export or structured data export.

02

Extract

The relevant ecommerce data is pulled out of the source structure.

03

Map

Source fields are matched to Shopify’s data structure.

04

Shopify

Mapped records are imported through Shopify APIs.

05

Validate

Migrated records are checked against the source data.

Migration feasibility depends on the source platform, database structure, available data and required migration scope. Send a sample or the schema and we’ll tell you what can be migrated before you commit to anything.

Process

How the migration works.

Five stages, with the mapping agreed before anything is written into Shopify.

Your store’s data is unique.

Every ecommerce platform structures products, customers, orders and custom fields differently. We review your actual source data before migration so we can identify what can be moved directly, what needs mapping and what requires a different approach.

That review happens before any quote, so you know the scope and the trade-offs up front rather than discovering them halfway through.

  1. 01

    Source data

We review the available source data — database structure, exports or the source system itself — and agree what is in scope.

  2. 02

    Data extraction

We extract the required ecommerce data from the source system in a structured form.

  3. 03

    Mapping

Source fields are mapped to the appropriate Shopify data structure, including fields with no direct equivalent.

  4. 04

    Migration

Mapped data is imported into Shopify using the appropriate Shopify APIs and migration workflows.

  5. 05

    Validation

We validate migrated records and investigate mismatches, missing data or mapping issues before launch.

Our tooling

Built by CartScholar for real-world store migrations.

Automated processing for the repetitive parts, human judgement for the parts that need it.

CartScholar has developed its own migration tooling to help automate repetitive extraction, mapping and import work.

Our workflow can extract structured ecommerce data, map source fields to Shopify’s data structure, process supported datasets and push migrated records through Shopify APIs.

Automation reduces repetitive manual work, while our team handles mapping decisions, validation and migration edge cases.

  • Human review of the source data before anything is imported
  • Mapping decisions made by the team, not guessed by a script
  • Validation against the source after import
  • Testing before launch
  • Source-specific edge cases handled by hand

Structured data extraction

Ecommerce data pulled out of the source system in a consistent, repeatable structure.

Source-to-Shopify field mapping

Source fields matched to Shopify’s product, customer and order structure.

Shopify API-powered import

Mapped records written into Shopify through its own APIs rather than ad-hoc imports.

Automated processing

The repetitive work across large datasets handled by tooling instead of manual entry.

Migration validation

Migrated records checked against the source data within the agreed scope.

Manual handling of edge cases

Unusual fields, relationships and source quirks reviewed and resolved by the team.

Validation

Migration doesn’t end when the import finishes.

We validate the migrated data against the agreed migration scope, then investigate anything that doesn’t line up.

Records

Product, variant, customer and order records checked against the source.

Structure

Collections, metafields and important mappings reviewed for correctness.

Assets

Images checked for presence and association with the right records.

Gaps

Missing or mismatched records identified, investigated and reported.

Validation covers the records and fields inside the agreed scope. It is a structured check against the source data, not a guarantee that every possible issue will be detected automatically.

Why CartScholar

Why work with CartScholar?

Migration is a data problem before it is a design problem. That’s how we approach it.

Structured migration

Data is mapped before it is imported into Shopify, so decisions are made deliberately rather than discovered later.

Less manual work

Automation handles the repetitive data-entry and import tasks that make manual migrations slow and error-prone.

Shopify API integration

Supported data is pushed into Shopify through API-based workflows rather than ad-hoc spreadsheet imports.

Validation

Migration is followed by data checks against the source, with issues investigated before launch.

Technical Shopify experience

We work with Shopify themes, APIs, metafields, products, collections, apps and store configuration day to day.

Questions

Straightforward answers about migration.

Can you migrate from Magento to Shopify?

Yes, depending on the source data available and the agreed migration scope. Magento stores vary a lot in structure, so we review the database or exports first and confirm what can be mapped to Shopify before quoting.

Can you migrate WooCommerce data to Shopify?

Yes, depending on the data structure and the scope required. WooCommerce data is shaped by the plugins a store uses, so we check how products, variations, customers and orders are stored before confirming scope.

Can you migrate customers and orders?

Yes, where the source data contains the required information and those records are in scope. Historical orders are mapped to Shopify’s order structure, which differs from most source platforms.

Can you migrate products with variants?

Yes. Supported product and variant data is mapped to Shopify’s product and variant model, including options and variant-level pricing where the source provides them.

Do you need access to my existing website?

It depends on the source system. Some migrations work entirely from database exports, SQL files or structured data exports. Others need access to the source system or its API. We tell you which applies after reviewing the source.

Can you migrate a large catalogue?

Larger migrations can be handled, but the approach depends on the source database, record volume, how records relate to each other and the scope agreed. Volume affects the method and the timeline, so we review it up front.

Will everything migrate exactly as it is?

No migration is a literal one-to-one copy. Source platforms and Shopify use different data structures, so fields and relationships have to be mapped, and some source fields have no Shopify equivalent. We review the scope and the mapping with you before the project starts.

How long does migration take?

It depends on the source platform, data volume, complexity, custom fields, how records relate to each other and the validation required. We give a timeline once we have reviewed the source data rather than quoting a fixed number of days up front.
